Women-only public buses will hit Dubai this weekend, say the Public Transport Agency at Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). "This step is intended to meet the increasing demand among females for public bus services. Public Transport Agency therefore decided to inaugurate this service following site surveys and studies to identify the areas with the highest demand for exclusive ladies buses," said Mohammad Abu Baker Al Hashimi, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA Public Transport Agency. He added: "Buses deployed on (L55) will set-off from Muhaisnah 4 (near Lulu Village) to Satwa via Muraqqabat Road, Deira City Center, Karama, and World Trade Interchange.

The service will run at two intervals from 6.30am to 9am, and from 4pm to 8pm, as these timings witness the highest demand for such service among ladies. "Bus service will be operated at 30 minutes headway (intervals) and Public Transport Agency will increase the number of buses deployed on this route to minimize the headway if there is a higher bus occupancy rate among ladies in future."
